We Are…<br />
A key ingredient in the role of identity is the passport image. Photographic identities are a form of control, but they are also seen as a sign of belonging, acceptance and empowerment. For some, status can be fragile, with expiry dates constantly looming. The use of simple words illustrates how language can constitute social reality and affect people’s lives. This work plays on the use of the passport image to interpellate the visible and invisible identities of people who were born abroad, but are now living in Ireland. 2008.
